Deb Jenkins Not Just About Food -
11/25/11
Well this is going to be the spot for me to write about music , food, recipes, movies, and what is happening in the FM area. I have missed it and now I think I have found the perfect spot to do it, right on my web site! What an AH HA moment this is. I can have you email me your thoughts to, debgreatheart@aol.com, and I can even post them here.

First I want to say thanks to all of you that have continued to ask me" when, where and why I have not been writing, and letting me know you actually miss this persons non writing skills. I will be the first to tell you too that I am not a writer, I would rather call myself a talker with at times something to say , but mostly  just wanting to share what things I have found.  So please help me spread the word and visit me often. Give me ideas too if you like, new movies, music and of course food. Yep this feels nice to write again.

Of course I will also keep you up to date with what things are happening with me directly. At first I thought that was a weird thing to do ,boosting about ones self, but this year at EVERY event I have done people want to know those things about me. And hey if I don't tell you how would you know?
So here is my first recipe posted. Something simple, buttermilk cornbread. Straight from Paula Deen show on the food network. I love this recipe. It has never not ( I now a double negative) turned out and I hate to bake, so this makes me happy to know it is no fail. There are very little ingredients involved too , so another cheer to Paula. I guess the only weird thing is that it calls for buttermilk. Most people do not have that hanging gout in the fridge. I needed it when I made chicken strips and low and behold there it still was in the fridge when I saw this cornbread recipe. The nice thing to know about buttermilk is that it last a long time and it does not cost you an arm and a leg just because it is dairy.

Buttermilk Cornbread ( from food networks Paula Deen)
Ingredients
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus butter for baking dish
1 cup cornmeal
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease an 8-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix together the eggs, buttermilk, and butter. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the cornmeal mixture and fold together until there are no dry spots (the batter will still be lumpy). Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
Bake until the top is golden brown and tester inserted into the middle of the corn bread comes out clean, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.
